Shianne is a very bubbly 7 year old who has LCA. She was born on the 8th August 2009 and made an immediate impression on all that surrounded her. At age 6 months we were told by doctors that our precious little bundle had inherited a form of blindness for which there was no cure or treatment. After some genetic testing it was confirmed that Shianne had the NMNAT1 gene. At first our world had crumbled but as the years have passed she has shown us that there are no boundaries. Her determination to be independent astounds us every day. Shianne is currently in year 1 at school and is achieving amazing results, no matter what the task is. Her love of music and dance seen her awarded an outstanding effort certificate at her end of school assembly last year. Shianne also loves to be outside discovering and exploring nature not to mention wanting to go for run which exhausts mum. As a family we are united and have not stopped living our lives, we believe that the best thing for Shianne is to experience everything that life has to offer, including all the ups and downs so she can learn to live her life without us one day. There once was a time that I thought Shianne would not make it in the big wide world but she is definitely proving me wrong.
