Hi! My name is Averi Heffelfinger. I'm a happy and healthy 8 year old with LCA - NMNAT1. I'm from Nazareth, PA, USA.
My mom's name is Hali, and I come from a big family! I have a large group of friends, who I also consider family. My family and friends are full of love, and they are a wonderful support system. They let me be "me", and they provide some help and guidance along the way. I'm not totally in the dark, because I do have light perception, therefore I know when it's dark outside.
Some of my favorite things are: dogs, spaghetti, swimming, playing piano, horseback riding, singing, dancing, music, watching my favorite shows, beach time, telling jokes, catching lightning bugs, camping, baseball, and just spending time with my family and friends.
Some things you may find interesting is that I can ride a bike all by myself, and I participate in Special Olympics every year as a runner, I love to run!
My family and friends come together annually to do a Golf Tournament fundraiser called "Flight for Sight". The tournament raises money for research in hopes that I might be able to see one day.
I enjoy being blind because it gives me the ability to see things with my hands.
